GATEWAY OF PACIFIC

GATEWAY OF PACIFIC

The Gateway of Pacific campus, spanning 36 acres, serves as the premier research center on the West Coast for leading biotechnology firms. Collaborating alongside BioMed Realty and FLAD Architects since 2017, I helped with the remarkable transformation of a collection of one-story warehouses and their surrounding parking lots into an exemplary model of regenerative and sustainable design. This project has evolved into a dynamic landscape, seamlessly merging state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, enticing amenities, and immersive natural surroundings, fostering opportunities for social engagement, relaxation, and a deeper connection with the environment.

FOSTERING SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGAGEMENT

Fostering Social and Environmental Engagement

Experiencing the excitement of international travel involves tasting novel cuisines. This product simplifies the comprehension of foreign menu offerings through a user-friendly process that deconstructs the typical ingredients and preparation method of foreign dishes.

I orchestrated the plant design of the central park on the 5.5-acre campus. The campus features open spaces and amenity areas, providing opportunities for social interaction and tranquil walks amidst native landscapes. At the core of the campus, a premier amenity hub includes a fitness center, restaurant, bar, and café, extending onto an appealing deck with an artistic pavilion. My responsibilities encompassed the design of the deck, pavilion, plaza spaces, and built-in furnishings.

Drawing inspiration from cast glass vases and earth art, the Ribbon Wall takes shape in an organic flow, enveloping and providing shelter for a central social hub with movable furniture and a bocce court nestled within a Gingko tree grove. Constructed from white precast concrete units, the wall forms a sinuous structure that captures light and shadow, creating a visually striking contrast with the surrounding landscape.

In adapting to a post-pandemic work setting, it's crucial to acknowledge that the social bonds formed in person are a key aspect of workplace value. Today, workplaces must offer diverse experiences that foster the social dimension of both creative and technical work. Recognizing the significance of brief breaks for rejuvenation and the positive impact of natural elements, I aim to design spaces that enhance daily health and well-being by facilitating connections between individuals and with nature.
